Around Here Lately

Hi friends! How are you? Can you believe that it is mid-July already? The summer goes way too fast. I’m holding on to every single day and really trying to savor all the goodness of summer (like cherries, blueberries, ice cream… you know, the important stuff).

Milo is starting to walk!!! Ah! He has only taken a few unassisted steps but I know that before long he is going to be cruising all over the place. I’m one part excited and one part scared for how our lives are going to change. I foresee a lot of running after him in my future. :)

We booked a summer trip to Bermuda. Have you been? It will be a first for us. Originally, we were thinking to go to Europe, but after some additional thought, we realized that what we really wanted (and needed) was a relaxing getaway. Europe is so fun, but we often put a lot on our plate, and don’t have as much time to rest. And let’s be honest, vacation with a toddler is definitely different — need as much relaxation as we can get! I’ve heard incredible things about the pink sand beaches. We are staying here, and I can’t wait to just soak it all up.

We had a friend’s wedding on the north shore over the weekend and it was so fun. My mom watched Milo and it was the first time that she has actually put him to bed. It went great (although I shouldn’t really be surprised) and it feels amazing to know that other people can successfully do the things that only you’ve done. We have four more weddings this summer / fall, two of which are local and then one in Tampa and one in Austin. We are starting to think about those trips, and looking forward to them.

Speaking of travel, I am going to be going away and leaving Milo for the first time ever in just a few weeks! One of my dearest (and oldest) friends is having a bachelorette party in Chicago. I didn’t want to miss it, but also wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about leaving Milo. After talking to Matt about it and really thinking hard, I decided that I am going to go. Quite honestly, I’m not sure that I’d ever feel ready to leave him. I know I am going to miss him so much, but it’s just a quick weekend getaway and I think it will be good for all of us. The last (and only) time I’ve been to Chicago was a few years back when Matt surprised me with tickets to Oprah. It was so fun but quite the whirlwind — we were only in town for 24 hours and suffice to say, didn’t see a whole lot. I’m excited to visit and see more of the city.

My good friend, Belen was visiting from Argentina (remember when we went to Argentina for her wedding?) with her husband and daughter. We were able to meet up a few times, and it made me so happy. Only wish they lived a little bit closer!

I’ve been reading Big Magic (finally!) and really enjoying it. I’ve been wanting to get back into reading for ages, and somehow it never becomes a priority. It’s so much easier to just turn on the tv when you’re tired at night… which we still do plenty of (currently we’re watchingย The Good Wife) but it feels nice to be reading again, too.

Summer, please slow down a little bit. What have you been up to lately?
